How are we doing?

The members of Syracuse Police Department strive to “Set the PACE” as a professional law enforcement agency by displaying our guiding principles of Pride, Accountability, Cooperation, and Excellence in all that we do.  Feedback from the community is a great way to gauge how we are doing.

Compliments

Everyone, even those in law enforcement, likes  to receive recognition for a job well-done.  Sharing thanks and praise is a great way to lift someone's spirits and to encourage others to act in a similar manner - "what gets rewarded, gets repeated."

If you would like to officially compliment an officer, you can do so in person, by phone, by email, by letter or by clicking on the appreciation form below.

Complaints

If you have a concern or complaint about Syracuse Police Department, or if you believe you have been treated unfairly by a member of the Department, please bring it to our attention in a timely manner. We take citizen complaints seriously and strive to provide the public with efficient, effective, and impartial service.

Official citizen complaints are investigated by a ranking staff member, typically a Sergeant or Division Commander. A formal and complete investigative process is followed in each case. The results are provided to the Police Chief for review and final decision. The Police Chief will notify complainants, in writing, at the conclusion of the investigation.

There are times when people who have been arrested, or received a citation, feel that they are not guilty of the charge and want to complain to the Department. The guilt, innocence, or legality of an arrest are matters for the court to decide. Only complaint allegations of employee misconduct are investigated by the Department.

If you would like to file an official complaint, you can do so in person, by phone, by email, by letter or by clicking on the complaint form below..
